Call for Case Competition Abstracts

Midwest Society of Periodontology Resident Hour

Logistics:

  • The theme for the 2026 Annual Meeting will be cases showcasing regeneration of periodontal or peri-implant osseous defects.
  • Each program director can nominate 1 case from their school, and it will go through a double-blinded review by 3-4 clinical experts.
  • The participants should currently be enrolled in the residency program (Classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028)
  • The judges will pick 3 cases to be discussed over an hour on Saturday between 4–5 p.m. The resident will present the case for 5 minutes, followed by a discussion with the clinicians for 10 minutes.
  • All submissions must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. CST on January 16th 2026.
  • Submissions must be made via email to Jeffrey Wessel: wesseljr@gmail.com
  • Submissions should include case description and photos (in a PDF format)

Criteria:

  • All cases will be graded on a 1 – 10 scale, with the highest overall score
  • Quality of Photographs (1–10-point scale)
  • Completeness of documentation (1–10-point scale)
  • Difficulty (1–10-point scale)
  • Uniqueness (1–10-point scale)
  • Rationale and Evidence behind the procedure (1–10-point scale)
  • A perfect score would be 50 points

The winner will be announced at the cocktail reception on Feb 21st 2026 along with the winners of the Graduate Research Forum.

All three finalists receive free, two nights of hotel, and a plaque.
